Tothitch's faithful / Kingdom of Michoacan

Post by Admin on Mon Jun 08, 2015 8:53 pm

The small honor guard that visited Michoacan was a shadow of its former glory. Although they carried the serpent-standard and spoke in the name of the old empire, the faithful were badly outmatched by both the heretical followers of Citlalmin and the treacherous goblins. Now they came to beg aid and protection from those who had been their vassals in times past. They requested an audience with the king, to speak of matters he likely knew well.

It was always dangerous, dancing with those who would sooner see you with your throat slit. But occasionally, these notions had to be entertained for the greater good. The portion of the continent surrounding Michoacan was quickly spiraling into disaster, with Forgehall and Tikal on the brink of war. Assurances, defenses, and as many allies as could be gathered were incredibly important to the surviving lineage and lasting dynasty of Michoacan.

The rather small, for a diplomatic charter, visiting party was escorted by nightfall to the large temple palace complex at the center of the lake island. After a long ascent, they entered into the private meeting place that King Tariacuri II enjoyed as a diplomatic retreat that was, while being in clear view, quite secluded.

The dull blue feathers of King Tariacuri were illuminated quite heavily, the throne at the end of the hall backlit with large metal lamps, large fires making the air smoky and sweet.

Tariacuri scraped his claws against the stone floor, and then bowed slightly, in formal tradition. He jumped straight to business.

"What brings you to my hall, lizardfolk? You speak like the Sotekans, but do not carry the banner of Tikal. Explain yourselves."

"Glory and honor upon you, great king Tariacuri. I speak in the name of the Faithful of Sotek - those of us who reject Citlalmin's usurpation of the throne from his rightful brother and heretical apotheosis. We follow the old gods, and the legacy of Pacal and Ahuizotl, the last true emperors of the Empire of Sotek."

"The royal line of Sotek is severed. But your house has always been loyal to the true empire. Your father was second only to the emperors themselves..."

"We no longer have the strength to maintain the Empire of Sotek against the heretics and goblins. King Tariacuri II, as the last true faithful to the old gods and Ahuizotl, we beg you: take up the standard of Sotek and take it as your right, as the last faithful and true house. Defend the empire's legacy and accept the fealty of all true Sotekans." The diplomat dropped to his knees, accepting a small box from one of the guards. Opening it, he proffered the serpent's scepter to the avian king.

Tariacuri II was not just taken aback, he was stunned. He had spent many recent nights pacing in his quarters or looking out across the lake, worrying about the coming of war and the relatively bad preparation the nation had for it's defense, but this was an immediate solution. An immediate solution that would bring them to the brink of war.

No matter. The way was clear. He knew of his heritage, knew the blood that was spilt with the Avians of Michoacan leading battle after battle. He knew of the religious ferocity his people were feared and famed for, knew of it's background, knew of it's pantheon. This was clearly a gift from Tlaloc, an oasis of strength and fervor in a sea of weakness and despair.

The people of Michoacan would return to the Sotekan Empire, this time not as the most-favored-son, but as the dominant partner in a lineage stretching back centuries. Tariacuri knew his duty.

He nodded, bristling the feathers on his head to make himself look larger, in reminiscence of the Michoacani shock troopers of old. His scaled hand reached down, and grabbed the scepter of stature, the baton of rank signifying the Emperor of the Sotekan Empire. He briefly stared up, thanking Tlaloc for this true sign of divine favor. He was the begotten son.

"I humbly accept this mantle of responsibility, and invite the lizardfolk to accept it with me, in a joining of our nations. From this day onwards, I will officially claim the rank of Emperor of Sotek, King in Michoacan."

"Thank you for your belief and trust in the lineage of our forebearers, faithful. You are truly the most devoted servants to our legacy."
